Beautiful
© Joe Gilder 2004

I awoke to the sound of hippos fighting down in the river.
I sipped my coffee, and it warmed my soul.
Thought of you as I waited for the sun to rise;
These July mornings in Kenya can be so cold.

Spent all day blown away by the wildlife that roams
All throughout those endless Kenyan plains.
The sunset escorted my mind back to you,
And a warmth again went coursing through my veins.

Beautiful captures me.
Beautiful sets me free.
Beautiful speaks to me.
Beautiful quiets me.

Lying down underneath these Mississippi stars,
Your hand dangerously close to mine.
The beauty to my left rivals the beauty above,
But there’s more to the one my hand's about to find.

Beautiful captures me.
Beautiful sets me free.
Beautiful speaks to me.
Beautiful quiets me.

I could take a thousand pictures,
Write a hundred songs,
But it just won’t fit on paper.
My heart’s where it belongs…

Beautiful captures me.
Beautiful sets me free.
Beautiful speaks to me.
Beautiful quiets me.

"Loved"

I hate these wandering eyes, but I love your faithful gaze.
I hate these selfish arms, but I love your welcoming embrace.

You love the same me that I despise.
Who I am in the mirror is not who I am in your eyes,

Because I'm loved...I'm so loved.

I hate these deceiving lips, but I love your honest smile.
I hate these ever-running feet,
But I love that you chase me mile after lonesome mile.

You love the same me that I despise.
Who I am in the mirror is not who I am in your eyes.

Love can't be ignored.
Love won't be denied.
Love's that which I search for
And from which I hide.
But you always find me,
Though I run away.
I know that you know me,
So why do you stay?

Because I'm loved...I'm so loved.

Okay, so this was worth a post:  It's a song in the works/cool story...and it's true.

(verse)
"It's an urgent matter," said the note
That had been left for me at the door.
"There's something at the front desk waiting for you;
You need to pick it up by four."

(verse)
At 3:55 I arrived, gave the lady my name,
And much to my surprise
She pulled out a beautiful guitar and handed it to me.
My mind would not believe my eyes.

(pre-chorus)
On the case there was a note,
And I slowly read the lines;
It said, "Somebody wants you to have something,"
But at the bottom it wasn't signed.

(chorus)
It was more than I expected,
Never could I have rejected
This gift of such undeserved grace.
I don't know just quite how to respond,
I guess I'll just keep playing on
In tribute to this giver without a face.

So...the rest of the song will make some sort of comparison between this particular gift and how it reminds me of God's grace to this undeserving jerk.
